Riposte is an entirely family owned and run boutique winery. Tim, Dale and Nick form a close-knit team that is guided by the winemaking philosophy to be ‘hands on’ at every stage from vineyard to bottle. Each vineyard site is carefully selected for quality and its suitability for producing varietal character. Tim and son Nick work closely with the growers at every stage, ensuring grapes are picked at the optimum stage of ripeness, vibrancy and freshness.

Elegance with length and drive. Floral lift combines with fresh cherries, red fruit and subtle savoury undertones. A complex lingering palate of berries, blossom and spice resolves seamlessly along the palate to a lingering finish with hints of charry oak.

With 125 years of family winemaking history, they know what they are doing. What impresses me most about this is that it appears to be a significant step forward in absolute quality. This is a stunning, deep-fruited Pinot with a direct and enveloping perfume, loaded with exoticism, spice and perfectly judged oak. Interestingly, it sports a lighter mid-palate than expected, which adds an air of levity and freshness to the intense fruit palette. This is a stunning wine, and it already looks like it is into its stride. It sells for $AUD 42 which makes it one of the finest value Pinots on Earth! Rated: 18.5/20.0; Matthew Jukes

Its colour is an alluring glossed ruby, its bouquet weaving crushed cherry, woody French oak spice, and dark rose petal, all of which tumble into the palate, juiced up a touch with some cherry/raspberry cola senses, seasoned a tad with a dusting of cracked black pepper. Everything is knitted neatly together by a wrapping of suede-like tannins, feathering a soft yet meaningful finishing grip. A complex matrix of fruit and savoury elements give the wine a solid presence. Tasty Business. Price: $42.00; Alcohol: 13.5%; Rating: 94 Points; Tony Love

Meaty and floral and lovely. It's complex in a charming way and openly accessible, but with nuanced extras. It tastes essentially of red and black cherries but with woodsmoke, sweet spices, purple flowers and those aforementioned deli meat characters all making positive contributions. There's a touch of velvet to the mouthfeel too. This wine is on song. You can buy with confidence. Alcohol: 13.5%; Rated: 93 Points; Campbell Mattinson
