Mulline Vintners is a collaboration between 2 Bens. Collectively, Ben Mullen + Ben Hine are Mulline Vintners.
From a single vineyard located right on the water in Portarlington. All '98-planted MV6 clones; 30% whole bunches, 25% new oak. A bright crimson purple. A gorgeous, complex and pure-fruited bouquet of dark cherry, red rose, a hint of potpourri and subtle spice. This has real energy on the palate, which is compact and concentrated, yet light on its feet. The tannins are in perfect harmony with the fruit. Should develop beautifully over the next eight to 10 years. Date: Feb 2026; Alcohol: 12.5%; Price: $65.00; Drink by: 2034; Rating: 97+ Points & Special Value Star; James Halliday Wine Companion
Portarlington is on the Bellarine Peninsula side of the Geelong region. I’m very pleased with this release. It’s 12.5% alcohol but the fruit has a boldness, a darkness and a depth – all of course within a varietal context. The acidity has a slight apple-like edge but otherwise we’re straight into boysenberry and black cherry, with smoked meat, ozone, cedarwood and autumnal herb notes beautifully integrated within. Indeed I would even go so far as to suggest that there’s a completeness to this wine. It’s firm-enough with tannin, well sustained, buoyant and beautiful. It’s the best Portarlington Pinot Noir that I’ve seen from Mulline.
