High in the Hills surrounding the Barossa lies Pewsey Vale, Eden Valley's pioneer vineyard. Pewsey Vale Vineyard is the hallowed home of Riesling. The vines can be traced back to the 1800's and the original James Busby collection of cuttings brought into Australia. Today Pewsey Vale Vineyard is a single vineyard dedicated to the single variety - Riesling.

Pewsey Vale Vineyard The Contours Riesling is characterised by a special site, sensitive vine growing and astute winemaking. The Contours Riesling is crafted from old vines grown on the coolest slope within this ruggedly beautiful single vineyard. Pale straw in colour with green hues. Intense classic lemon fruit aromas with a hint of white flowers. bottle aged characters of toast, clove oil and lemongrass have started to emerge and combine with the fresh citrus and white flowers of its youth. The palate has great length and depth with concentrated power, pristine fresh lime juice overlaid with toasted brioche, sage oil and lime marmalade. The wine finishes with soft, refreshing natural acidity.

Ah, the wonders of Eden Valley Riesling as it just starts to enter its secondary phase. This one is beginning to show some toasty character, which you might expect with a wine that is seven years old. But it is hardly going to flip in the short term and it retains a youthful, vibrant edge highlighted by that strong mineral and lemony character that you might expect with a little bit of Eden Valley bath salts and dry talciness. Already a high degree of richness, but it’s held tight with control. Outstanding. Date: Sept 2025; Drink by: 2025-2035; Price: $42.00; Rating 96 Points; Ray Jordan; Wine Pilot

Another museum release riesling from the excellent Contours block of the Pewsey Vale vineyard, way up around 500m in the High Eden. A gentle mid-straw in the glass with aromas beginning to take on the complexity that we love from aged riesling. Bickford's lime cordial, citrus blossom and Christmas lily are joined by buttered brioche, washed rind cheese, pressed wildflowers, almond paste, petrichor and stone. Porcelain acidity provides clarity and cadence, and it is clear that this wine is in a great place, possibly heading to a greater one. Date: Dec 2023; Alcohol: 12.5%; Price: $40.00; Drink by: 2040; Rating: 95 Points & Special Value Star; James Halliday Wine Companion
