The former Gawler high school mates seized upon an idea in 2002 of salvaging some of the last remaining old vine vineyards in the Adelaide Plains and making icon wines from that region. Vineyards were secured, old vines a priority. Our small band of growers have since embraced the ideal of delivering premium grapes in order to showcase the power and rich fruit flavours the Adelaide Plains and adjoining Mt Lofty Ranges has to offer. The wines are made with minimal intervention. Open fermented and basket pressed. No fining or filtration is used prior to bottling.
It’s kind of somewhere in between Gris and Grigio, but leaning more towards Gris because of the flavour profile. Such good balance between freshness and flavour here. Pear, a floral vanilla thing, a little spice, crisp and bright, fine powdery texture, gently herbal to close. Refreshing and lovely to drink. Stylish. Versatile too, I should imagine. Tasted: Sept 19; Alcohol: 12.5%; Price: $20; Closure: Screwcap; Drink: 2019-2022; Rated: 92 Points; Gary Walsh; The Wine Front
