Leeuwin Estate is one of the founding wineries of the now famous Margaret River district.
In 1972, legendary Napa Valley winemaker, Robert Mondavi, first identified the future site of the Leeuwin vineyard as being ideal for the production of premium wine and provided early mentorship to Denis and Tricia Horgan who founded Leeuwin Estate in 1974. The initial vineyards were planted by hand over a five year period from 1975. Maintaining a team of highly skilled and dedicated winemakers, Leeuwin Estate is now under the direction of two generations of the founding family.
Prelude Vineyards wines are made from fruit producing the most readily expressive wines, with the objective that they will drink well soon after release. Whilst still retaining ageing potential they impart typical Margaret River impact and character. The Prelude label celebrates Leeuwin’s association with the musical arts through the staging of the annual Leeuwin Concert Series.
The nose is bright and concentrated with subtle complexity, featuring lime, golden pear and white peach. Aromatic sweet spices of cinnamon and nutmeg with deeper tones of sesame, cashew and nougat provide depth and layers. Elevated jasmine floral notes enhance the purity and varietal expression. Definitively modern Leeuwin Estate Chardonnay; the palate exudes vibrancy with delicate textures. The intensity of pear, lime and lemon across the palate is threaded with a finite acid spine that is laced with spice and savoury notes, leading to a seamless and elegant finish.
Leeuwin Estate has the game sewn up with this entry point wine. It's so precise, so balanced, so pure. The distinction between fruit and oak is impossible to gauge, the length magical.
