Brothers Jack and Eddie Hirsch purchased a picturesque property with a shared vision of breeding and racing Thoroughbreds. The lush, rolling hills and fertile soil hinted at potential beyond their initial ambitions. Driven by a deep connection to the land, Jack and Eddie immersed themselves in the world of thoroughbreds, laying the groundwork for what would later become a celebrated winery.
Graceful and elegant, the seductive bouquet shows sweet cherry, cured meat, dried mushroom, fennel, and toasted nut aromas. I’ts finely flowing and seamless in the mouth, delivering soothing texture backed by beautifully melded tannins, finishing impressively long and refined. At its best: 2026 to 2036. Date: April 2025; Price: $70.00; Rating: 96 Points; Wine Orbit
Pale crimson and garnet colours tend to mask the fact that this is a mighty powerful pinot noir from the Yarra Valley. It’s sourced from 30-year-old MV6 clone vines, and after picking was partially cold macerated with skin contact before partial whole bunch infusion and a further 2 weeks on skins. Only 20% new oak was used, yet it plays an important role in elevating the aromas and driving the palate. Subtle savoury-mushroom-like characters merge with primary raspberry nuances. The palate is still tightly held with firm, sinewy tannins and a little oak. The fine acid lines give focus. A wine of great poise. Cellar: 12 years. Rating: 95 Points; Ray Jordan; Wine Pilot
The vines here are three decades old, the MV6 clone. Partial whole bunch fermentation is adopted here, with the wine aged in older French oak, plus 20% new.A pale crimson hue, the nose is a little edgy but rather alluring. Dominated by red fruit notes, there are some touches of undergrowth with raspberries, dried herbs, cherries, delicatessen meats, truffles and kirsch. Silky, elegant and focused, this is still very young, but it really is rather exciting. Immaculately balanced with bright acidity, sleek tannins and a lingering finish, this will provide pleasure over the next eight years. Love it.” Rating: 94 Points; Ken Gargett; Wine Pilot
