Grosset Wines philosophy has remained steadfast over thirty years. The emphasis is on purity of fruit.  The organically managed vineyards are hand tended, and each bunch of grapes is harvested at optimum ripeness. The winemaking process is gentle and uncomplicated.  With dedication, discipline and the application of knowledge garnered through decades of experience, the result is the finest expression of variety and place.

This single vineyard blend of cabernet sauvignon and cabernet franc from the rugged slopes of Clare’s highest vineyard shows a consistency of style, yet is distinctly different with each vintage. They can be tight unevolved and lean, or powerful, rich and dense with a surprising immediacy yet there is a core that makes them recognisably ‘Gaia’. The latest vintage is not quite like anything else, in the best possible ways.

Very deep and very bright young red-purple colour, that stains the glass. There are fresh, youthful, almost raw aromas of raspeberry, cassis, blackberry and briar, beautifully ripened, the palate very concentrated, dense and full-bodied but not over- the-top. It's powerful, concentrated and backed by a welter of firm tannins, but doesn't sacrifice its elegance. This is a tightly packed, dense and focused cabernet that deserves a decent term in the cellar. It's just a baby today.  Date: Feb 2024; Alcohol: 14%; Price: $108.00; Drink: 2027-2042; Rating: 97 Points; Huon Hooke; The Real Review
