Paul Byron and Harold (Ralph) Dunning believe that great winemaking begins in the vineyard and seek out those parcels of Western Australian wine that they believe wine lovers really want to drink.

A bold and fragrant Cabernet showing black cherry, mulberry, bay leaf and earthy spice. The palate is medium-to-full bodied with concentrated dark fruit supported by supple yet structured tannins. Layers of tobacco leaf, cocoa powder and dried herb enrich the wine’s mid-palate. A line of fresh acidity ensures balance, finishing long with hints of graphite and savoury oak. It shows both power and refinement, revealing impressive varietal purity. A superb expression of region and variety; poised, polished and classically proportioned. Drink: 2025-2030; ★★★★★ Outstanding; Rated: 95 Points; Vino Masters

If ever a vintage, variety and region combined to offer a slam dunk, it must surely be Margaret River Cabernet from 2023. The wine saw maturation in French oak for twelve months. A deep magenta hue, this is well crafted, with fine oak integration proceeding apace. There are enticing aromas of black cherries, graphite, licorice, blackberries, plums, tobacco leaves and warm earth. The wine has focus, a fine balance, sleek tannins, juicy acidity and is of medium length. It will drink impressively for the best part of a decade. Drink to: 2025-2035; Price: $32.00; Rating: 92 Points; Ken Gargett
