Glen Eldon  was first settled in the 1880’s by the Herbig family, who planted vines, fruit trees and ran cattle and sheep.

Planted in 1865 it is a small dry grown gnarly old vineyard producing tiny quantities of intensely flavoured fruit. Hand harvested these gems are then given tender loving care in the winery. An exhilarating expression of the very best Barossa Shiraz can be and truly a world class wine.

This is sumptuous and powerfully expressed, showing blackberry, dark chocolate, baking spice, and toasty oak characters on the nose. The superbly weighted palate delivers outstanding depth and richness, wonderfully complemented by velvety texture and beautifully pitched tannins, finishing plush and gratifying. At its best: now to 2040. Date: Apr 2025; Price: $200.00; Rating: 97 Points; Wine Orbit

It is made in tiny quantities when the planets align. It's generous but more in the medium-bodied zone. Seamlessly integrated with such silky fine tannins and perfectly integrated oak. Texture and mouth feel are quite brilliant, capturing the qualities of the fruit. Drink to: 2025-2045; Price: $200.00; Rating: 96 Points; Ray Jordan

A small patch of Barossa Shiraz, planted way back in 1865, provides the fruit for this stunning and deeply flavoured red. So much to like here. Excellent length, a fine line of vibrant acidity, balance and sleek tannins. Such a generous and welcoming style. Quintessential Barossa. Drink to: 2025-2037; Price: $200.00; Rating: 95 Points; Ken Gargett

It's grown on vines that were planted in 1865. Yes, 1865. This is a wine that speaks in the most certain of terms. The fruit through the back half of this wine is washed through with authoritative, grainy tannin; the finish itself is then well sustained. This is a wine of exemplary depth and power. Price: $200.00; Rated: 94 Points; Campbell Mattinson
