One of the greatest names in all of Burgundy, dating back to the 1930s when Armand was one of the first of five domaines to defy the negociants and bottle their own wine. The Rousseau name is synonymous with Gevrey-Chambertin; Armand passed the reins to Charles who on retirement passed control to his son Eric.

A more restrained, and less oak-inflected, nose somewhat grudgingly offers up its array of airy red cherry, dark currant, just turned earth, the sauvage and a dazzling array of spice elements. The mouthfeel of the equally tautly muscular broad-shouldered flavors is strikingly refined thanks to the dense but exceptionally fine-grained tannins shaping the superbly persistent finish that really fans out as it sits on the palate. This is without question one of the stars of the 2022 vintage. Date: Jan 2024; Drink: 2037+; Issue: 93; Comments: Don't miss!; Rating 95-98 Points; Allen Meadows; Burghound

Aromas of sweet raspberries and cherries mingling with notions of orange zest, incense and spices in a complex bouquet introduce Rousseau's 2022 Chambertin Grand Cru, a full-bodied, deep and layered wine that's concentrated, precise and penetrating. It's one of the least evolved wines in the cellar, but it's very fine-boned for such a warm vintage. Date: Jan 2024; Rating: 95-97 Points; William Kelley; Robert Parker's The Wine Advocate
