Located in the heart of the Soave Classico DOC near Verona, Cantine Prà is run by brothers Sergio and Graziano Pra, the former tending the estates 25 hectares of vineyards and the latter in charge of the cantine. The Prà range of wines are considered to be one of the benchmarks for the region including the Soave Classico, an un-oaked Soave Classico Superiore, Monte Grande, the barrique aged Soave Classico Colle Sant’ Antonio and a stunning Recioto di Soave Classico. A producer that is totally in tune with their terroir and what the varieties Garganega and Trebbiano are capable of delivering in the glass.
The wine has an attractive lemon colour and a bouquet bursting with notes of flowers and crisp fruit. Aromas of hawthorn and jasmine are particularly prominent, as are exotic yellow and white fruits such as peach and apricots. On the palate, the wine is medium bodied and flavoursome, full of fruit, with clear mineral notes. The wine is easy drinking and has an aftertaste of hazelnuts and nutshells.
I like Soave. Such a pleasant thing to drink with lunch on a warm day. Prà seen on many a winelist around these parts. Bitter lemon and stone fruit, some ginger, fragrant green herbs and flowers. It’s juicy and fruity, but has an Italianate bitterness with balanced acidity, almond biscotti, and a zesty finish of good length. It’s kind of hard to drink it slowly. Like it. Especially with a good chill. Alcohol: 12%; Price: $30.00; Closure: Screwcap; Drink: 2019 - 2022; Rated: 91 Points; Gary Walsh; The Wine Front
