Domaine de Bellene is located in Beaune in buildings steeped in history, dating from the 16th century. The origin of the domain name: "Bellene" comes from the name of the city of Beaune. The 24 hectares of vineyards stretch across many appellations and are all focused on organic farming. Winemaker Nicolas Potel goal is for Bellene to be Burgundy's first outright major organic Domaine.
From 70 year-old vines Potel's old vines Bourgogne rouge is an attractive, fragrant wine, toute en finesse, light-medium bodied the way it's supposed to be. I love the silky tannins, the comfortably bright acids, and the impressive depth and length in the category. Well made, attractive vintage for current enjoyment or hold 2-4 years, or even a touch longer in a good, cold cellar without concern. A sharp value for Bourgogne fans. Tasted August 2023. A very pretty and highly expressive nose reflects notes of various red berries and plenty of earth character that can also be found on the supple, vibrant and delicious middleweight flavors that conclude in a mildly rustic if nicely persistent finale. Bordering the famous Premier Cru Beaune-Bressandes to the south. The wine shows a very typical Pommard touch in its entire structure. So round, soft plum on the nose, lots of spice, bay leaf, allspice, cinnamon, prunes, some licorice, violets and tar. Overall very voluminous. This lovely round, Pommard-like lushness continues in the mouth. The wine has a wonderful volume, a fleshiness that you wouldn't expect at this price range. It also has a powerful structure from the whole bunches and the wine can mature for ten years. The Maison Dieu shows a Burgundian opulence that is quite rare in this form, but also typical of Pommard. You have to like that grippy tannin bite, I think it's brilliant. With its expansive aromas and lush fleshiness, it is so incredibly engaging and sexy, with fine playing and finesse. Rating: 93 Points; Heiner Lobenberg; Gute Wein
