Ashton Hills is a three-hectare, dry-grown vineyard that lies in the Piccadilly Valley sub-region of the Adelaide Hills, on a ridge just below the summit of Mount Lofty. The estate was founded by Stephen George in 1982, and since that time it has built a reputation as one of Australia’s finest proponents of Pinot Noir and cool climate whites.

Juicy red fruits, plum and cherry are supported by florals and spice from the use of whole bunches. Plum, blackberry and strawberry entwine with autumnal leafy characters and soft spice. There is a juicy suppleness to the tannins, but a bright acid line and a hint of charry oak ensure the flavours linger on the palate.

Fermented with 30% whole bunches, matured in French oak for 9 months. In the dark and brooding class of pinot, with undergrowth, autumnal leaves, dark berries, woodsy spices and sage. The amount of whole bunches has been decreased from 2020, a good sign, bringing an element of added complexity rather than sharpness. A strong, firm, exciting young pinot.
