Hoddles Creek Estate was established in 1997 when the D'Anna family decided to establish a vineyard on the property that has been in the family since 1960. The vineyard sits astride Gembrook road and adjacent Hoddles Creek.
Possibly the Yarra Valley’s best-value chardonnay, from Hoddles Creek Estate’s winemaker Franco D’Anna. Bright medium-light yellow hue with a smoked meaty charcuterie bouquet, including lemon butter and tangy lime leaf. The wine is bright, lively, elegantly structured and energetic on the tongue, a multitude of lemony flavours lingering long on the farewell. Amazing value. Buy of the Week. Date: Dec 2024; Price: $20.00; Rating: 92 Points & #1 of 27 2024 Chardonnay from Australia; Huon Hooke; The Real Review
This is the last year that Hoddles Creek will have access to fruit from the Lone Star Creek vineyard in Woori Yallock. Quite different, but equally as good as it's stablemate from the Yea Valley. This is nuttier and more savoury, while the palate is denser and chewier. It will need another 6–12 months to loosen up and unwind. Regardless, they are in competition with each other for best $20 chardonnay in the country. Date: Dec 2024; Alcohol: 13%; Price: $20.00; Drink by: 2028; Rating: 94 Points & Special Value Star; James Halliday Wine Companion
