An iron fist in a velvet glove best describes these extraordinary wines. They are fashioned with commitment from the very old vineyard (shiraz, cabernet sauvignon, malbec, mataro and muscat of alexandria), with its unique terroir, by Tony and Lita Brady, who rightly see themselves as custodians of a priceless treasure - James Halliday.
Of all the Wendouree wines, it’s the Malbec I most look forward to tasting each year. I’m odd like that, I know.
What a delight this is. Black plum, violet, mint, polished cedar and licorice – all so aromatic and head spinningly attractive. Medium to full bodied, plump, fleshy and seductive yet carries no excess. Fine sweep of al dente tannin (to borrow a phrase), raspberried flavour and freshness, again the perfume and a long mineral laced finish. Beautiful to drink now, or much later. 95 points on quality, plus one for love and diversity. Rating: 96 Points; Drink: 2018-2033; Date Tasted: July 2015; Alcohol: 13.4%; Gary Walsh - The Wine Front
