Torzi Matthews is a food and winemaking partnership between Domenic Torzi and Tracy Matthews. Both share a passion and firm conviction of appreciating the value of heritage in the crafting of their wines and olive produce. In 1996 they stumbled across a small, frost-pocketed hollow in the beautiful Mt McKenzie, Eden Valley and fell in love with the area for its remoteness and its diverse thin soils.
Estate single vineyard wine grown in the chilly surrounds of Mount McKenzie in the Eden Valley, Barossa This label represents rendition of Eden Valley, Barossa Shiraz which is the non dried portion fruit that of Frost Dodger Shiraz and is aged in ex Frost Dodger barrels.
This wine comes in at under $20 if you shop around. That’s incredible value. Dom Torzi sets a modest price, but is invariably confident about the quality of his wines. Bright blueberry and blackberry, plenty of pepper and spice, potpourri perfume. It’s medium bodied, sleek and dark cherry juicy, super fine tannin, some meaty and nutty flavours, gentle stony tannin pulling along the finish. Tasted: Aug 2019; Alcohol: 14.5%; Price: $25; Closure: Screwcap; Drink: 2019-2028+; Rated: 93 Points; Gary Walsh
