Torzi Matthews is a food and winemaking partnership between Domenic Torzi and Tracy Matthews. Both share a passion and firm conviction of appreciating the value of heritage in the crafting of their wines and olive produce. In 1996 they stumbled across a small, frost-pocketed hollow in the beautiful Mt McKenzie, Eden Valley and fell in love with the area for its remoteness and its diverse thin soils.

The nose is wonderfully perfumed of violets, clove, raspberries and blueberries. Delicious palate that carries over from the aromas with added dark blackberry, white pepper and delicious meaty undertones which are dense but delicate. Finishes long with lovely texture & fine tannins.

Chocolate almond, spice, meaty, dried herbs. Lively wine, the dark fruit pops, the tannin is a landslide of shale tannin, quite pops with perfume, and the finish is dark and saline. Date: Mar 2024; Alcohol: 13.5%; Price: $38; Closure: Crownseal; Rated: 95 Points; Gary Walsh; The Wine Front

Very complete, fine boned, panforte leads over black cherry, green olive, a touch of mint, some faint charcuterie notes in perfume and palate, a good echo in both. Slinky texture with a sheath of fine, silty tannins, stretches long and fine with gentle palate-staining sweet fruit, salt bush and crispness. A little bloody drizzle too. So succulent too. Refreshing also. Vin de soif meets something fancier, a gluggable wine with Afghan Hound pedigree. It’s such a treat to drink, with all the great wine touchstones.  Date: Mar 2024; Alcohol: 13.5%; Price: $38; Closure: Crownseal; Rated: 95 Points; Mike Bennie; The Wine Front
