Located in the Yarra Valley, 65 kilometres northeast of Melbourne, the thousand candles farm is a historic, sprawling property that stretches over 1100 acres. It comprises of vineyards, cattle pastures, and native bush.

Fermented with 50% whole bunches and aged in new (8%) and older French barriques. A medium ruby red. Harmonious and complex on the nose with its aromas of red and black fruits, freshly grated cinnamon, incense and flowers. Just as well balanced on the palate which has both excellent depth and structure. The tannins are chiselled and long, as is the wine. A little patience will be required, and rewarded. Alcohol: 12.5%; Price: $65.00; Drink by: 2032; Rating: 96 Points & Special Value Star; James Halliday Wine Companion

This is a bit murky and I like that in a Pinot Noir. It's a wine built on red cherry and undergrowth flavours but orange rind, Campari-like herbs and sweet spice notes are also key aspects of this wine's personality. It smells great, basically; fresh, fruity, complex and energetic, with cedarwood characters adding that bit extra. All this could be enough to recommend this wine, possibly, but the way the fruit builds, and more especially the way tannin rolls and fans out through the back half, is where and how the quality elevates. This wine is excellent, and complete with a savoury/nutty/twiggy edge to the aftertaste. Price: $65; Drink: 2025-2031; Rated: 94 Points; Campbell Mattinson; Wine Front
