The 2023 Richebourg Grand Cru is a total stunner. Bright and beautifully sculpted, with tremendous energy, the Richebourg is one of the wines in the range of 2023s that offers a super-classic sense of Burgundian transparency. Crushed rocks, mint, white pepper, blood orange and red-toned fruit are finely sketched. Richebourg is rarely this elegant. What a wine! Date: Mar 2026; Drink: 2036–2073; Rating: 98 Points; Neal Martin; Vinous

Dense bright purple, lower pH in appearance. There is something of a greener inflection on the nose, a case of the stems showing up-front rather than at the end. Quite complex dark raspberry fruit on the palate, a peony showing as well. The Richebourg specialises in depth of fruit, the Romanée St-Vivant more in its drive and backbone, very much a different shape. Maybe a little lighter within the context of the other wines here this year. Bertrand suggests more elegance, and ultimately the Richebourg will prove to be the better balanced long term runner, despite the superb fruit of the Romanée St-Vivant. Date: Oct 2024; Drink: 2032–2045; Rating: 95-98 Points; Jasper Morris MW; Inside Burgundy

The 2023 Richebourg is a wine of immense potential, although it remains somewhat closed on the initial attack. With time in the glass, ripe aromas of mulberry fruit and spice, along with a suggestion of well-integrated barrel notes, begin to develop. There is abundant tannin and grip that give depth to the creamy texture and lead the wine to an impressively long finish. The wine is less opulent than the Romanée-St-Vivant, but perhaps has even more long-term ageing potential. Date: Mar 2026; Drink: 2035–2080; Rating: 97 Points; Charles Curtis MW; Decanter

There is just enough wood to notice framing the ripe but cool and distinctly restrained aromas that are almost, if not quite, as floral in character along with plenty of spice, tea and liqueur-like black cherry wisps. As one would reasonably expect, there is quite a difference in size, weight and raw power to the big-bodied, muscular and intense flavors that brim with extract before culminating in a massively long finish as it just goes and goes. Despite my description, this mineral-driven effort is really quite compact and brooding and a wine that is going to need extended cellaring, but that is not exactly news to readers who are fans of this wine. In short, this is a 'buy and forget you own it' Riche. Date: Jan 2025; Drink: 2043+; Comments: Don’t miss!; Rating: 94-97 Points; Allen Meadows; Burhgound
