The dictionary definition of ‘Riposte’ (pronounced rip-posst) is comeback, reply, retort, or in the context of the sport of fencing a quick counter stroke. After over a decade of confusion about his name ‘Riposte’ was chosen as an appropriate name for a ‘comeback label’ by Tim Knappstein.

A truly excellent year for Pinot Gris. Mouth filling fresh cuts of pear and apple entwined with spice and floral nuances. Rich fruit resolves in a lingering finish of crisp acidity. Vibrant and lifted will develop additional depth over 2-3 years.

Crisp and clear with bang-on, typical green apple/ green pear lines – picked crunchy rather than too ripe and soft, which means the acidity here is a core element of this wine. Deliciously managed to allow the flavours to carry some baked spice, the fruit/skin/pith textural feels to underpin the finish. Balance and energy assured. Price: $24.00; Rating: 94 Points; Tony Love

An excellent Pinot Gris from the Adelaide Hills made from a mix of free run juice and 10% pressings, with half the free run juice fermented in French oak, the rest in stainless steel. The pressings are fermented in older oak, before the three components are blended. A very pale lemon hue, the nose is beautifully fragrant. Hints of citrus and spices, lemon, grapefruit, pears and stewed apples. Thanks to a seductive texture with impressive length, this really is one of the most delicious examples of Pinot Gris yet encountered this year. Delightfully expressive, drink now for three to four years. Drink to: 2027; Price: $24.00; Rating: 93 Points; Ken Gargett
