Joe and Dina Grilli's Italian heritage comes through in everything they do. With a passion for winemaking craft and a readiness to push a few boundaries, they have crafted a stable of very personal wines. The Primo Estate and JOSEPH labels are based in McLaren Vale and Clarendon with winemaking facilities on their Virginia vineyard. Revered by wine lovers, critics and contemporaries around the world, each vintage becomes a concerted effort to produce something unforgettable.

Italy and its residents are doing it particularly tough at the moment. Take a quiet moment to pause, reflect and send love to them when you have a glass of this crisp bubbly. Winemaker Joe Grilli made it as a tribute to the sparkling wines of Veneto in Northern Italy and his relatives across the pond. It's a fizzy mix of stonefruit and lemon. Gobsmacking bang for your buck. Katie Spain; The Sunday Mail

Palest yellow colour, bright and fresh. Bath salts, white pears, lemon curd and red apples - aromatically vivacious. It's round of bead and bristling with crunchy green-apple acidity. Ultra-dry with a measured tease of mid-palate sweetness. Very good. Date Tasted: March 2020; Price; $22.00; Alcohol: 11%; Rating: 91 Points & No.1 of 44 Prosecco from Australia; Nick Butlerl The Real Review

No body, least of all me, would have expected a brand new release to swoop in and snatch the prize for the best prosecco of the year. Least of all from McLaren Vale and Riverland! But there are no rules in this game, history counts for nought, and the only criterion is the best wine in the glass. There you have it! A new release from Primo Estate’s Virginia Vineyard, this is a fresh, crunchy, lively prosecco with just a touch of sweetness (8g/L – similar to most champagnes) – hoorah! It’s built around the varietal markers of nashi pear, lemon and a spicy edge reminiscent of rocket. It’s about as well-crafted and delicious as prosecco can be. And refreshingly dry. King Valley, look out! Price: $22.00; Alcohol: 11%; Rating: 91 Points & Prosecco of the Year 2020; Tyson Stelzer Sparkling Report 2020
