The Pawn Wine Co. had its beginning in 2002 as a “once” off experiment between 2 mates – winemaker Tom Keelan and vigneron David Blows. They had a craving to make small parcels of wine from alternative varieties growing on their Springhill Vineyards in the Adelaide Hills. They began to identify other idyllic viticultural sites and hand selected parcels of fruit within their Adelaide Hills vineyard to produce wines that were not only a bit unconventional, but enjoyable to drink, incredibly food friendly, and made in a style that reflects their true origins – the ultimate in hand crafted, Adelaide Hills, Artisinal wine.
2017 Review: Multiple clones, whole berries wild-fermented in 3-tonne open stainless steel fermenters, matured in French oak (25% new) for 6 months. A pinot made equally in the vineyard and the winery. A rose petal and spice bouquet, the precise palate replete with red and black cherry fruit decorated with fine, savoury/earthy tannins running through to a long finish. The price is barely believable. Drink to: 2027; Price: $19.00; Alcohol: 14%; Rating: 94 Points & Special Value Star; James Halliday; Wine Companion
