O'Leary Walker Wines was established in 2000 by winemakers David O'Leary and Nick Walker. With over twenty five years experience and established reputations making premium wine with the big companies, these two long time friends decided to take control of their own destiny and craft small batches of wine from some of the best vineyard sites in South Australia. With a great leap of faith they are now doing exactly what they set out to.

This Shiraz is made using fruit from two vineyards, both the cooler region of Polish Hill River and also the warmer Armagh, north of Clare. There is a component of whole bunch to the ferment, which promotes varietal character. Rich, sweet fruit highlighted by blackberry, plum and black olive flavours. Powerful yet beautifully balanced with chalky tannins, hints of mocha chocolate and showing a tight, fine grain structure with subtle fruit/oak integration.

Dark, brooding and lifted aromatics of coffee, mocha, mulberry, plum and spice. Dark, deep and full bodied, plum, cedary oak, anise, mulberry and spice. A powerful, balanced and delicious wine with poise. Date Tasted: December 2022; Drink: 2023 to 2038; Price: $35.00; Alcohol: 14.5%; Rating: 95 Points; Aaron Brasher; The Real Review

Deeply coloured, we have aromas of chocolate, warm earth tones, black fruits, licorice and cold tea. There is balance, concentration and superb length, which maintains the intensity throughout. A nice combination of concentration and elegance plus bright acidity and ever-so-fine tannins. This will impress for at least a decade – really good value. Drink to: 2022-2032; Price: $35.00; Rating: 95 Points; Ken Gargett
