The natural beauty and mathematical precision of the nautilus shell has been our inspiration to create expressive, textural, precisely crafted wines at Nautilus Estate since 1985. Back in those days there were around 80 wineries in New Zealand. Today there are over 500, yet we remain under the same family ownership, committed to making wines from the stunningly beautiful Marlborough region of New Zealand.

An expressive wine on opening, with tea rose, morello cherries, pomegranate and wild strawberries. A hint of sumac and paprika spice leads to terracotta and rusted tin. There is an edge of rugged bracken, some thorny stem and a gentle ease to oak spice. Soft caraway seed and rye. This is polished and chiselled with silty tannins and long lines of stretching and sweeping acidity. Simple, dazzling and, despite its drinkable nature now, will live a long time to come. Drink to: 2032; Alcohol: 13%; Price: $40.00; Rating: 96 Points & Special Value Star; James Halliday Wine Companion

Complex and intriguing bouquet with fresh and developing scents of red berry fruits, strawberry and yellow cherry, plum and floral scents of rose and red melon. There’s a fine savoury clay and baking spices layer adding complexity and charm as the wine opens out in glass and becomes a little more ambient. A dry wine on the palate with fine tannins, lots of polish and style with plenty of acidity and red berry fruits core. Nut and vanilla, clove and clay. A balanced and well made wine. Drink to: 2030; Price: $44.99; Rating: 93 Points; Cameron Douglas, MS
