Mount Mary is one of the great small wineries of Australia, established by Dr John Middleton in 1972. Production is tiny. Mount Mary is noted for both the character and high quality of its wines. Since the first vintage in 1976, it has established itself as one of Australia's most highly regarded producers, commanding a mythical status among wine collectors. The vineyard faces due north and captures optimum sunlight during the growing season. The purity of fruit, poise and structure of Quintet, a Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Malbec, Merlot and Petit Verdot blend, epitomises the estate. It resonates with individuality of place and Dr John’s fastidious respect for the landscape. Mount Mary has continued to take great steps forward while staying true to the vision of Dr John, whose son David oversees the business while grandson Sam Middleton has taken on the winemaking mantle with aplomb.

Réflexion wines are made entirely from Mount Mary estate grown fruit, primarily from youngest plantings. The fruit grown on these vines is still developing towards the quality and consistency demanded for Mount Mary Vineyard estate wines. From time to time, depending on the vintage, limited quantities will be released of red and white wines under the Réflexion label. 

In cooler seasons, our younger plantings of Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc can sometimes fall short of the exceptional quality required for inclusion in our flaghship Quintet blend. These parcels however, still produce vibrant, expressive wines that stand proudly on their own. Crafted using the same meticulous winemaking techniques as our Quintet components, final blending decisions for Réflexion are made just prior to bottling. The 2023 Réflexion is a compelling example—fresh, vibrant, and immediately drinkable. Aromatically, it bursts from the glass with lifted red fruits: cherry, plum, and redcurrant. The palate is taut, sleek, and finely structured, delivering flavours of cherry and blackcurrant layered with subtle sweet spice and smoky nuances that add complexity. Tannins are present but beautifully

integrated—soft, restrained, and perfectly aligned with the wine’s elegant frame and medium- bodied weight. 85% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Cabernet Franc, 5% Merlot.
