Set against the dramatic backdrop of two mountain ranges, the vineyard property of Mount Langi Ghiran (Aboriginal for ‘home of the yellow-tailed black cockatoo’) combines state of the art technology with traditional winemaking methods. The governing principle at Mount Langi Ghiran is to preserve the vineyard’s longstanding dedicated commitment to quality by ensuring that cropping yields are kept low and that wines are produced using traditional winemaking practices with minimal intervention.

Sourced from a selection of blocks across the historic Mount Langi Ghiran vineyard situated in the Grampians region of Victoria, where the combination of Langi’s cool climates, old vines and granite sands produce Shiraz with great intensity, purity and finesse. Blackberry, black cherries, vanilla, tar and baking spice on the nose. The palate shows raspberries, red currant, red liquorice and blackberry mix on the palate with baking spice and mocha notes. Pure, acid drive and silky tannins.

Whole-berry wild fermentation in concrete, both small open-topped and large closed fermenters. Left 14 days on skins, matured 14 months in French barriques (30% new). Often cited as a benchmark cool-climate shiraz, there's no denying this is yet another impressive, elegant shiraz from a strong vintage. Boasts refined richness and a depth of flavour that is well-matched to a vivacious personality. Fruit is the star, with flecks of pepper and spice assisted by plump tannins. That's a WOW! Date: Dec 2021; Alcohol: 14.5%; Price: $35.00; Drink by: 2033; Rating: 96 Points & Special Value Star; Jeni Port; James Halliday Wine Companion

Glossy deep red in the glass, an elegant nose of plum and red cherry that has a dusting of clove and nutmeg that is very appealing. The palate is medium to full bodied with a silky texture, yet still fully expresses the deeply concentrated and satisfying blue and black fruits the Grampians is known for; tannins are fine but come in waves and there is a faint dark chocolate influences and a continuation of the spice notes on the nose as the wine moves towards its long, lingering finish. Excellent value. Price: $35.00; Drink by: 2032; Rating: 94 Points; Patrick Eckel; The Wine Reviewer
