The Domaine de Montille was established in Volnay in the middle of the XVIII century. Today it farms 20 hectares of vines, essentially Premier and Grand Crus, mainly in the Côte de Beaune but also in the Côte de Nuits. The domaine produces about 8,000 cases covering 20 appellations. During the XX century, Hubert de Montille wrote the finest pages of the domaine’s history. The lawyer and his children have always strived to return their domaine, which had declined in the past, to the stature it once enjoyed. Furthermore, it is thanks to Hubert that during the 1960’s the domaine became renowned around the world.

Here too there is just enough oak influence to merit mentioning framing the elegant essence of poached plum, violet and soft spice wisps. The wood can also be found on the notably more refined and even better-defined middle weight flavors that exhibit excellent punch and sneaky length. The 2018 Pommard 1er Cru Les Pezerolles was showing especially well, bursting from the glass with scents of orange rind, peonies, wild berries and cinnamon that's quite marked by its whole-cluster component. Medium to full-bodied, succulent and supple, it's ripe and enveloping, with supple, powdery tannins cloaked in a fleshy core of fruit.
