Maverick Wines was established in 2004. The objective was and is to be one of the top premium boutique wineries in Australia. Although the company is young, Maverick owns 75 acres of vineyards from the top terroirs across the Barossa Valley and Eden Valley. Approximately half of the vines are over 100 years old, and many much older.
Long, smooth and unctuous; briary black and blue fruits, cedar/chocolate oak and mineral undertones lifted by scents of flowers and dried herbs. Brightly lit cassis, blackberry and dark plum flavours knit with polished oak and firm, gravelly tannins, building texture towards its savoury finish. Drink: 2036 to 2046; Rating: 95 Points; Jeremy Oliver; Australian Wine Annual
Biodynamically engineered, this has thrust, parry and edge: Eden Valley's signature lilac lift, the meld of warm plummy fruit to cooler blue fruits, and plenty of toasty oak smeared with tapenade to chaperone it across a very long finish line. Drink to: 2031; Date Tasted: Jan 2018; Alcohol: 14.7%; Closure: Cork; Rating: 95 Points; Ned Goodwin MW; James Halliday Wine Companion
