Black fruit, menthol, cedar, chocolate, aniseed, violet. Full-bodied, rich in tannin with a ferrous quality, deep and inky, juicy small berried black fruit, a little nougat, balanced acidity, and robust length. It’s very Clare, and also very good. Suspect it will cellar a treat. Date: Oct 2018; Alcohol: 14.1%; Closure: Screwcap; Drink: 2020-2036; Rated: 94 Points; Gary Walsh; The Wine Front
Bright berries all the way in this modern, smoothly rendered cabernet from the Lodge Hill Vineyard. It has a wealth of violet, cassis, boysenberry and gently earthy aromas, all leading up to a palate that offers noble tannin length and texture. Ripe blueberry and blood-plum flavours. Drink now. Date: June 2018; Rating: 93 Points; James Suckling
A single vineyard Cabernet, rich and robust with dark fruit, menthol, dark chocolate and spicy flavours matched with food-friendly acidity finishing long and velvety on the palate. Drink or cellar for 10-plus years. Cabernet food pairings: lamburgers, tourtiere, roast blade of beef, grilled game sausages. December 2022; Rating: 94 Points; Nat Maclean
This line of single vineyard wines is very good, with sassy fruit slung across unadulterated tannins and gentle acid crunch. The structure is the modus-operandi. Natural of feel. Cabernet's distinctive voice, too, is clear: currant, dried tobacco, bay leaf and mint. Given that we are in the Clare, spearmint! Date: Jan 2018; Rating: 92 Points; James Halliday Wine Companion
