Given the age of this wine, we recommend decanting all older reds to leave the sediment in the bottle.

Deep, dark purple in colour, the nose exudes dark but ripe plum and blackberry with some spice lurking in the distance. The palate displays a kaleidoscope of greater dark fruit characters that fill every corner of the mouth, ably supported by generous, quite silky tannins which add to a brilliant mouthfeel. A big Barossa baby that has already taken its first step with a fair chunk of elegance to boot. Drink now over the next decade.

Dense, inky colour; the full-bodied palate is crammed to the gills with blackberry, prune, licorice and dark chocolate flavours which obscure both the tannins and the oak, both of which are there. If you are looking for a high class barbecue wine, this will do the trick. Drink to: 2028; Price: $40.00; Alcohol: 14.9%; Rating: 93 Points; James Halliday; Wine Companion
