Hay Shed Hill is a classic old vineyard in the heart of the Willyabrup Valley - the premier sub-region of Margaret River where the region's first vines were planted and the great tradition of Margaret River wine began. Planted in 1973 with the varieties that put Margaret River on the wine map - Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Semillon and Sauvignon Blanc - Hay Shed Hill produces world-class wines that reflect the place of their origin; wines of depth and flavour true to region and true to the vineyard.

The wine displays fresh green tinges on a pale straw colour.  The nose exhibits aromas of fresh cut pear and honey dew melon with some zesty citric notes. There are no overt woody or buttery aromas with the primary fruit characters expressed with clarity and definition. The palate is fresh and lively with clean crisp acidity complementing the vibrant fruity flavours. The palate has very good extension and ends clean and bright.

This is a first-class estate chardonnay from a great vintage; using the best free-run juice fermented in French barriques and matured therein for 11 months. The richness of the white peach and melon fruit gives rise to classic each way drinking options. Date: Nov 2023; Alcohol: 12.5%; Price: $30.00; Drink by: 2032; Rating: 97 Points & Top 100 Wines for 2023; James Halliday Wine Companion
