Harewood Estate wines showcase the diverse and spectacular Great Southern region. Based in Denmark, along the coast overlooking the Southern Ocean, the estate vineyards cover two sites off Scotsdale Road north of the town: the original Harewood vineyard and the recently acquired Apricus Hill.
A brilliant, exceptionally pale straw colour with youthful green tinges. The wine exhibits intense floral and citrus with hints of passionfruit enhanced by an underlying spicy lift.
All hail Riesling, the oft-forgotten champion of Australian white wines. Harewood's array of great WA Riesling releases are almost unwaveringly great examples too, just for a little evidence. The only question is, which release will be the best for this vintage? This might well be it. What I like about the Denmark release is the little twists of herbs in among the array of ripe fruits. A little dill and cabbage nestled among melon and grapefruit. It's a supercharged nose (and palate) too, a wine of grandiose citrusy power, and big fruit, yet also firm, firm acidity. Just an incredibly good, powerful and compelling white wine. Would I buy it?: in an instant. Rating: 95 Points; Andrew Graham
The 2023 Denmark Riesling is really quite similar to the Mount Barker Riesling of the same vintage, which leads me to ponder the effect of the lovely, mild 2023 season. In both instances, the wines are softly textured, plump and floral, with a dusty coriander/cilantro quality that infuses the nose and palate. I do love the salty acid here—in both instances, it's lovely. Drink to: 2038; Alcohol: 12%; Rating: 93 Points; Robert Parker Wine Advocate
