Clare Valley shiraz with a touch of nero d’avola
Here, cooler Clare Valley shiraz is complemented by the inclusion of nero d’avola. In 2016, there are coal black, brooding, dark berry aromatics that are a touch wild, even untamed. The flavours are of blackberry and black cherry and the wine shows power with restraint, a fleshy almost velvety texture, and firmish tannins which add structure without detracting from its immediate appeal.
There is only a touch of nero d'Avola with the shiraz that makes this wine so individual. It is luscious and rich, complexity courtesy of finishing fermentation in French barriques (35% new) and maturation in barrel for 18 months. The velvety mid-palate is trimmed on the finish by a savoury/licorice twist adding yet further to an already complex wine.
