Fallen Giants was planted in 1969 on the eastern slopes of the Grampians ranges in Western Victoria. For a long time a grower for Seppelts and Penfolds, the vineyard was purchased by the late great Trevor Mast in the mid 1990’s and subsequently became a Mount Langi Ghiran vineyard. In 2014 it was purchased by Aaron Drummond (half of Circe Wines) and a new chapter has begun. High elevation, old vines and ancient rocky soils have kept yields low but always delivered incredible quality. 23 acres under vine with a predominance of Shiraz, but a small paddock of old Riesling and Cabernet. The Single vineyard wines of the Estate are labelled Fallen Giants in reference to the dreamtime stories about the creation of the mountains.

Fermented with 5% whole bunches, left 10 days on skins and matured 12 months in French oak (10% new). The follow-up vintage to the 2019 winner of the Jimmy Watson Trophy at the '21 Melbourne Royal Wine Awards. The 2020 is similarly blessed with great elegance and poise. A sheer, fragrant lift to the perfume in peppery red fruits, baking spices and plum with convincing, concentrated flavours. Tannins run fine through to the finish with a gentle grip. Date: Dec 2021; Alcohol: 14.5%; Price: $35.00; Drink by: 2033; Rating: 95 Points & Special Value Star; Jeni Port; James Halliday Wine Companion
