Deep Woods Estate was established in 1987 and acquired by the Fogarty family in 2005, making it part of the Fogarty Wine Group. Under the FWG banner, Deep Woods Estate has been transformed into one of Margaret River’s most awarded and highly regarded wineries.
Representing the pinnacle of any given vintage, the 2016 Deep Woods Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon was crafted from the very low-yielding original vines on the estate, along with fruit from a single grower also in the Yallingup region of Margaret River. This wine has incredible lift and aromatic intensity abounding in concentrated cassis and blueberry fruit flavours; further nuanced by overtones of star anise and graphite-like minerality. An effortlessly ripe tannin structure frames a powerful and majestic palate providing complex and generous varietal flavours, including blackberry, plum and cassis. This concentration of fruit flavours is supported by delicately interwoven French oak characters and a savoury complexity. This powerful, detailed wine will reward careful long-term cellaring.
From the original vineyard planted in '87, the wine matured in new and used French oak for 18 months. This is high-quality, autocratic cabernet, with blackcurrant, earth and bay leaf on the bouquet and palate alike. It's minimalist winemaking, allowing the fruit maximum room to speak.
