Dandelion Vineyards defies normal description, it is perhaps Australia’s most quixotic fusion of vineyard and vigneron. Every bottle signs off with “Wish you were here...” Every wine is sourced from a single site. Founder, owner, winemaker - Elena Brooks - is a polymath and perfectionist on a lifelong vinous treasure hunt, following the inspiration of the Dandelion Flower’s Wishing Clock.
At the end of our old vine garden path there is a historic Menagerie of three grape varieties, adjoining blocks of Grenache, Shiraz and Mataro at Gomersal in the Barossa.
Dandelion always seems to serve up a delicious blend. Here the breakdown is a bunchy 73/19/8% grenache/shiraz/mataro, but that's not really important. What is important, however, is the desire to pour another glass. If that is the universal measure a wine should be judged on, the Dandelion Menagerie is winning. Slurpilicious red and blue fruits, exotic spice, amaro, roasting meats, purple floral notes, gingerbread, cola and a whole lot of yum. Just deliciously fun, savoury drinking, and that is a beautiful thing.
