Curtis Limited Series McLaren Vale Grenache 2022
The new faces behind the Curtis Family Vineyards are Mark, Thomas & Jenna Curtis, with the guidance of their father, Claudio Curtis who lives on the vineyard just outside McLaren Vale. The name Curtis is thought to derive from Curtius, a noble and wealthy family of the First and Second Centuries AD, the Roman Empire era originating from the Latinium people.
This was such a sublime season in McLaren Vale, and it is wonderfully expressed in this superb Grenache. The aromas are beautifully perfumed, with blueberry, dark cherry and, of course, the red-fruit intensity of raspberry. The palate is medium-bodied but tremendously intense and layered, with a plummy, dark cherry combination. It retains a vibrant spiciness and slightly dried herb character, adding further complexity. An outstanding example of Grenache in a superb year from this region. Drink to: 2026-2038; Price: $100.00; Rating: 96 Points; Ray Jordan
Most certainly a quality Grenache. From dry grown bush vines which were planted around 125 years ago. Ruby in colour, the aromas open with some lovely savoury notes of dried herbs, leather, truffles and smoked meats, before moving on to strawberries and red berries. A silky and seductive texture through to abundant but sleek tannins, the wine has excellent length. A very good Grenache from a very good vintage. It should provide at least another ten years of pleasure. Drink to: 2026-2036; Price: $100.00; Rating: 95 Points; Ken Gargett
