From a single block (all MV6 clone) at 280m elevation within the 1994-planted Deer Farm vineyard in Gladysdale. Matured in 33% new French barrels. A light, bright crimson, in a fascinating contrast to the slightly lower elevation Block D pinot. Boy, this smells good with its aromas of pure raspberry, wild strawberries, pomegranate and crushed violets. Supremely elegant and structured with discreet yet very persistent tannins. Finishes with a lick of amaro bitterness. Impressive. Drink to: 2033; Price: $85.00; Date Tasted: January 2023; Alcohol: 13%; Rating: 98 Points & Special Value Star; Philip Rich; James Halliday Wine Companion
Open fermented, 10% whole bunch, 10 months in French oak (33% new). Light, clear crimson; the perfume is from another world, intensifying as the gap between the glass and the nose increases, with traces of every imaginable red fruits, rose petals and spices. Delicacy to a palate of exceptional length. Drink to: 2041; Price: $85.00; Published: November 2022; Alcohol: 13%; Rating: 98 Points & Special Value Star; James Halliday; Weekend Australian
