Nicola Cantena planted his first Malbec vineyard in Mendoza in 1902 and today the estate is run by Nicholas Catena and his daughter Laura. Malbec continues to be the estates focus and the wineries pristine vineyards lie at the base of the Andes on soils of sand, lime and stone at altitudes between 920 and 1120 metres above sea level. Over the last 20 years, the fastidous vineyard work of Nicholas and Laura has paid dividends and Catena Zapata is now one of Argentina's most famous estates. Lush, beautifully created wines are what you can expect from Catena Zapata.

Fortuna Terrae means luck of the land in Latin, and indeed, our vines from this parcel of the Adrianna Vineyard are lucky. The deep loamy soils are home to many varieties of native grasses which prevent erosion and attract benefic insects, singing birds and mountain foxes. Because of the freshness imparted by the deep soils and high altitude, the wines of Fortuna Terrae have optimal acidity and delicate flower aromas. It is best to enjoy this wine a few years or decades after harvest.

Deep brooding nose with a touch of cocoa powder to the deep, fresh blueberries, chiles and chocolate. Impeccable chalky tannins confer structure and resolve. The 2022 Malbec Adrianna Vineyard Fortuna Terrae was planted in 1992 at 1,340 meters above sea level on calcareous soils. Purple in hue, it features intense aromas of blackberry, plum and lavender, alongside notes of licorice. Dry and juicy, the compact palate is enhanced by elevated acidity, creating a balanced mouthfeel that lingers with floral and blackberry tones. The overall aesthetic is slightly raw with a chalky nuance, delivering delicate yet intense flavors. Fortuna Terrae embodies the character of a high-elevation Malbec.
