Castle Rock Estate is nestled on the eastern slopes of the Porongurup mountain range and is named after a prominent nearby landmark. The vineyard has a cool and elevated northerly aspect, resulting in intensely flavoured wines. This is 100% estate grown and vintaged. The aroma, quintessentially Pinot Noir, is of complex cherries and strawberries. It has a lively, balanced, rich palate. The French oak, fine tannin structures give the wine a long fine finish and after taste. With appropriate cellaring this wine will develop wonderful complexity.
Grapes are from Mount Barker; open-fermented in 2-tonne vats, hand-plunged 2-3 times daily; on skins 9 days, matured in French barriques for 15 months. April 28 harvest; vibrantly fresh and elegant array of red, blue and black fruits resting on a bed of fine tannins.
