What began as a yearly diversion for label designer Aaron Woods and marketer Nicholas Crampton has grown into almost a full time obsession, with a range of wines from the Barossa and Eden Valley spanning five varieties and numerous styles. The ambition of Woods Crampton is to create unforced wines that showcase the quality of their fruit and tell the story of their vineyards. Minimal intervention winemaking follows to create elegant and expressive wines.

Sourced from a vineyard planted in eighteen ninety four in the Marananga sub-region, dry grown and planted on its own rootstocks. Hand picked at less than one and a half tonnes per acre.

Matured 20 months in 50% new French oak hogsheads. 2125 bottles. A self-professed 'herculean' wine in an overweight bottle. Medium purple hue. A compact and focused core of satsuma plum, blackberry/cherry fruit is accented with licorice and spice. French oak masterfully elevates structure and persistence without interrupting impressive fruit flow. Grand potential. One bottle was cork scalped. Reliable closures please. Drink to: 2038; Price: $125.00; Date Tasted: Jan 2021; Alcohol: 14.5%; Rating: 95 Points & Special Value Star; Tyson Stelzer; James Halliday Wine Companion
