This wine really shows the potential for the Corton-Charlemagne appellation, with luxuriously ripe apple and quince aromas and an edge of acacia flowers and spice. The texture is dense but not heavy – my first impression was that this was a lush, hedonistic wine, yet it never loses sight of balance. The team picks the vineyard in two stages (on 8 and 13 September) to ensure thorough ripeness and the desired acid balance. The result is elegant and complete. It will be enjoyable before the Montrachet and should continue to improve for 20-30 years. 21,086 bottles were produced in 2022. Date: Mar 2025; Drink: 2028–2050; Rating: 96 Points; Charles Curtis MW, Decanter

Aromas of sweet golden orchard fruit mingle with notions of clear honey, white flowers, toasted hazelnuts and petrol in a rich and inviting bouquet, introducing the Domaine de la Romanée-Conti's 2022 Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru. Full-bodied, ample and layered, with a sweet and enveloping core of fruit, ripe acids and a chalky finish, it's built along lines similar to the demonstrative 2019. As readers may remember, it's produced from almost three hectares of vineyards, in the communes of Aloxe-Corton and Pernand-Vergelesses, that have been leased from Bonneau du Martray since November 2018. Once again, it reflects the domaine's vision for Chardonnay—picked at full maturity, in a powerful, gastronomic style. Date: Feb 2025; Drink: 2025–2042; Rating: 95 Points; William Kelley, Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

Much like its 2023 counterpart, the expressive and ripe nose display plenty of wood influence on the ripe aromas of mostly spicy white orchard fruit and mineral reduction. On the palate the impressively scaled broad-shouldered flavors are lavishly rich and opulent with palate soaking dry extract though importantly, the firm acid spine keeps everything in the proper balance on the seductive and highly persistent finale. This is certainly built to repay a decade plus of cellaring but again like the 2023, it's not so backward that it couldn't be reasonably approached after only 5 to 7 years. Date: Jun 2025; Drink: 2032+; Rating: 95 Points; Allen Meadow, Burghound

The 2022 Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru is a creamy, exotic white. Apricot, lemon confit, slate, white flowers and chamomile lend a good bit of flair. Oily and dense, with terrific balance, the Charlemagne is quite the looker. It explodes on the back with a rush of citrus and mineral-laced inflections that leave a lasting impression. Drink: 2026–2034; Rating: 95 Points; Antonio Galloni, Vinous
