The wine regions of the great state of Victoria are some of Australia’s most picturesque and historical. Today we can expect to see exciting wines and evocative wine styles as common fare. Hare & Tortoise represents the steady pursuit of fine, individual, regional wines of great drinkability & interest through patience, knowledge and a hands-off approach to winemaking.
Sourced from a combination of upper and lower Yarra Vineyards, but primarily from vineyards within the Coldstream sub-region.
Bright cherry and purple with red brick hues. Pinot Noir fragrance exemplified with plum, spice, strawberry and autumn leaves. The palate is light to medium weighted but with mouth-staining flavour. Similar notes of lifted red and purple fruits with the subtle complexing of undergrowth, minerals and twig. A beautiful Pinot Noir from a very fine vintage that is drinking superbly now but will also reward short term cellaring.
Gorgeously fruited and elegantly perfumed, the bouquet shows sweet plum, cherry, subtle vanilla and mixed spice aromas, followed by a refreshing palate that's beautifully weighted and lingering. It's youthfully expressed with smooth texture and polished tannins, finishing silky and very appealing. At its best: now to 2024. Price: $20.00; Date Tasted: April 2020; Rating: 91 Points; Sam Kim; WineOrbit
It's a good, honest, straight-down-the-line Pinot Noir. Cherry, spice, a little something autumnal. Fresh, sweet red fruit, some fine powdery tannin, crisp feel, and a solid finish. Excellent value. Tasted: April 20; Alcohol: 13.5%; Price: $20; Closure: Screwcap; Drink: 2020-2022+; Rated: 90 Points; Gary Walsh; The Wine Front
