Based on the single vineyard philosophy of winemaking, Craggy Range was the first in the Southern Hemisphere to specialise in the production of single vineyard wines from the most prestigious winegrowing regions across New Zealand including Martinborough, Hawke’s Bay and Marlborough.

Le sol translated from French means ‘the soil’, appropriate when one considers the significant impact the stony soils of our Gimblett Gravels Vineyard have on our wine called "Le Sol". They keep the growth and crop of these old clone Syrah vines in check and provide warmth in the autumn, all critical factors in developing the enormous character and presence this wine has. Traditionally made, heady aromas, luscious yet classical texture. "Le Sol" is all at once luscious, elegant and exuberant – and in a very short time it has shown the breeding of Syrah in the Gimblett Gravels.

Very dark purple core. Abundant sweet, black fruits lead the bouquet, notably boysenberry and blueberry aromas. The tannin structure of the wine is exemplary and seamless from start to finish. The wine shows considerable drinkability in its youth, and the intensity is the highest in several years. One of the finest examples of Le Sol.

Inky, intense colour with great aroma depth and flavours suggesting cassis, dark-fleshed plum, dark chocolate, black pepper, violets and concentrated berries. Powerful wine that is built for the long haul with an impressive structure of fine, ripe, powdery tannins that balance fruit sweetness. Perhaps a little closed at this stage but full of promise.
