Castle Rock Estate is nestled on the eastern slopes of the Porongurup mountain range and is named after a prominent nearby landmark. The vineyard has a cool and elevated northerly aspect, resulting in intensely flavoured wines. This is 100% estate grown and vintaged. The aroma, quintessentially Pinot Noir, is of complex cherries and strawberries. It has a lively, balanced, rich palate. The French oak, fine tannin structures give the wine a long fine finish and after taste. With appropriate cellaring this wine will develop wonderful complexity.
Five clones, vines 20-35yo, multiple batch fermentations, 7-day cold soak, whole bunch, barrel ferment of final 3 baume for new French oak (28%), matured 15 months. Perfect colour; a great pinot at the dawn of its life; plum and cherry riddled with spice, char, violets and forest floor. Sophisticated and confident. Screwcap. Drink to: 2035; Price: $38.00; Alcohol: 13.5%; Rating: 97 Points; James Halliday; The Weekend Australian Magazine August 2021
