The West Cape Howe winery is situated on the undulating, historical and picturesque property of Langton on Muir Highway, Mount Barker, Western Australia. The property was purchased from Goundrey in 2009. This state-of-the-art winery is a world class facility, importantly located in Mount Barker, the premier fruit source location for West Cape Howe.
It's the exceptionally fine fruit quality of the Great Southern region and the combined skill and artistry of viticulture and winemaking that provides the West Cape Howe wine drinker with a truly memorable experience. West Cape Howe has acquired some of the oldest vineyard resources in Western Australia, giving unequalled access to the best and most consistent quality fruit that the cool Great Southern wine region has to offer.
80% cabernet sauvignon, 20% merlot with a simple WA GI, basic vinification: cold soak and 12 days on skins, portions aged separately in new and used French oak for 12 months. The colour is excellent - as is everything else about the wine; black and redcurrant, bay leaf and black olive hop into bed with each other, and snuggle under the covers, the French oak and tannins left to their own devices. The value transcends belief. Drink by: 2025; Date Tasted: Dec 2015; Alcohol: 14.5%; Rating: 94 Points; Special Value Star; Top 100 Wines of 2016; James Halliday Wine Companion
I reckon this little beauty is right back into form. Rich and densely fruit-packed cabernet merlot with a steely ironstone thread punctuating the plush ripe fruit. When you can get a wine of this quality for less than $20 then all is right in the world. Love it. Cellar: Up to 4 Years. Rating: 93 Points & Best Value Wine; Ray Jordan
