A straight Cabernet Sauvignon from the 1920 Eastern and 1975 vineyards. Likely much to the horror of many a Wendouree drinker, I just pour these wines into a big glass, and write them up almost straight away. I think they are very specific and open in personality, and as a result, quite easy to review. Here’s a wine for the Cabernet fancier to lock horns with. Blackcurrant, redcurrant, cedar and camphor chest, black olive and tobacco. It’s perfumed and serious, and lays its cards down on the club table for all to see. Medium to full bodied, firm and sinewy, bright bustling boysenberried acidity, firm minerally tannin, straight-down-the-line flavour of small berries, intense grip and length. Tobacco and dried flowers in the aftertaste. Smashing wine. Really quite something. Will live forever. Rating: 96+ Points; Tasted: August 2016; Alcohol: 13.7%; Closure: Screwcap; Drink: 2027-2050+; Gary Walsh - The Wine Front

100% cabernet sauvignon from the 1920 and ?75 plantings on the Eastern and Central Vineyards. Excellent hue and clarity to the slightly deeper colour of this wine; a regal cabernet with intense blackcurrant and black olive fruit that draws a line in the sand of the bouquet and palate, making its point for all to see. There are semi-tones of mint and dried herb in play too. This is a great Wendouree cabernet. Rating: 97 Points; Drink by: 2044; Date Tasted: June 2016; Alcohol: 13.7%; James Halliday Wine Companion
