Grapes were sourced from two separate areas of Montalcino; low-lying southern Castelnuovo and high-altitude north-facing vines. The elegant balance between body and aromatics is a result of this combination, a beautiful blend of Montalcino terroir.

As GW called it: “Baby Brunello”. It’s sangiovese from Montalcino, aged in 500 litre barrels. It’s quite a wine. It’s lit up with fragrance and yet at heart it’s dry and structural. It lures you in and then holds you tight. Cherries and blossomy berries abound. Earth and dried, fragrant herbs. Almost into pot pourri territory. Acidity and plenty of it, tangy and fennel-infused. And that finish, that dry, raking length. It’s a pretty wine but it stamps its foot and demands to be taken seriously. It will be fascinating to see how this evolves. Date: Dec 2016; Alcohol: 14%; Price: $40; Closure: Cork; Drink: 2018-2024+; Rated: 92+ Points; Campbell Mattinson; The Wine Front
