Planted in 1997, the Carillion Vineyard is situated on the foothills of Mount Canobolas in the cool climate region of Orange NSW. With an elevation of 800m above sea level, the vineyard been successful in producing a wide range of varieties and styles, from aromatic whites, textural chardonnays, delicate Pinots and bold Shiraz and Cabernet, all bursting with depth and intensity in their own way. Second generation Vigneron Tim Davis looks after the Carillion vineyard and wine brand, and focusses his efforts on producing small batches of high quality wines made with unrelenting care and attention to detail.

From the estate vineyard at Lidster, Orange; each clone (114, 115, 777, Abel, 667 and MV6) was hand picked and vinified separately. Each clone had its own Potter tank, all the fruit had 30% whole bunches for a semi-carbonic maceration and wild-yeast ferment. Each Potter was pressed directly to third-use French puncheons for the last stage of fermentation, ultimately each puncheon blended for bottling in December after 7 months' maturation in oak. Vinous logistics of a high level. Transparent crimson, verging rosé, colour. The wine has a scented, perfumed bouquet and a spicy, savoury light-bodied palate. Drink to: 2032; Price: $45.00; Date Tasted: March 2023; Alcohol: 13.5%; Rating: 97 Points & Special Value Star; James Halliday Wine Companion
