Yarran Wines is a family owned and operated winery. The vineyards, winery and cellar door are all located a short distance from Yenda, NSW. Yenda is part of the Riverina region, the area has a long tradition for winemaking dating back to 1913 and is well reknowned for producing high quality wines.
I am going to be asked, repeatedly, to recommend an affordable sparkling wine that can do duty at work functions or family get-togethers. You might not have heard of the Yarran label but this bubbly from a family-owned and -operated winery at Yenda offers some affordable luxury here with citrusy, fresh and vibrant notes. It is made from 100% chardonnay grown in the Riverina region of New South Wales but picked early while it still had crunchy acid. Young and quite dry, this a real bargain. Wine of the Week; Winsor Dobbin
The colour is light straw and there are crisp, clean aromas of candied pear, straw, hay and dried herbs. The taste is crisp and fresh but also soft, while the finish is refreshingly lively. It avoids obvious sweetness: the balance is superb. Great value for money. Huon Hooke; The Real Review
